Doom: Unto the Evil Review (cheetah-navara)
Doom: Unto The Evil is the first of three Premium DLC´s for Doom´s Multiplayer. It contains 3 new Maps, a new playable Demon, a new item, new weapon as well as a new armor set, colors, taunts and a couple new hackmodules.
- The three new Maps are all well designed and much better in terms of verticality and layout than those included in the main game. However for some reason you are not allowed to choose the gamemode you want to play on those Maps. You can only select Unto The Evil Maps, after that you are randomly assignt to a gamemode on one of the new maps. So for example: If you want to play soul harvest on the Map "Ritual" you can´t choose that on your own, which is really not understandable in my opinion.
- The new Demon is the "Harvester". The Harvester is a lot of fun and a good addition. He is a fast Demon with a good damage potential but a low amount of Health. His primary attack is an amped up version of the Lighning Gun dealing 16 Points of damage per second. Hitting enemies with his primary attack, charges up the secondary firemode. After the circle around the crosshair is full you can unleash a wave shot akin to the BFG, but with less range. The Harvester is a glass cannon kind of Demon, as his high damage is offset by his low health.
- The new item is the Kinetic Mine. It´s a set it and forget it kind of Mine that klings to all surfaces and detonates after an enemy passes by, dealing rougly 50 points of damage. It´s useful for setting traps or securing certain parts of the map.
- The new weapon is the EMG Mark V pistol, it´s basicly the pistol from the campaign mode only slightly modified. Its primary firemode is a semiautomatic low damage shot, it´s secondary is the charged shot which is rather high damage but overall the weapon is a dissapointment in my opinion.
-The new customisation items are a mixed bag in my opinion. The new robotic armor set looks really cool and interesting but the new paint looks too candy like for my taste. The DLC patterns are also rather forgettable. Some of the taunts are also really cool if you are into that kind of stuff.
- Another mixed bag are the new Hackmodules, while Primal Speed and Hidden Treasure are pretty good the other ones are are not quiet that useful and feel more like filler material.
As you can see im actually quiet happy with the content of this DLC package, the reason why i don´t recommend it is it´s price, which i think is a tad to much, as well the current state of the Multiplayer itself. As long as the matchmaking still doesn´t work properly and hackers and cheaters are running rampart, i can´t really recommend shelling out 15 bucks for this DLC.
