Doom II Review (JAIRO)
Doom 2 is awesome and legendary!
Completed it in the Doom 3 BFG Edition, took me 14 hours for both campaigns on Ultra Violence:
"Hell on Earth" and "No Rest For The Living".
Coincidentally same amount I spent on all 4 campaigns of Doom 1. The maps are just that meaty!
This Steam version offers the Enhanced Edition that has quality of life upgrades,
but I played the original 1994 version (the only one offered in BFG edition, wtf?)
Doom 2 is a direct continuation of Doom, in fact it should have been one whole game.
The sequel does not offer any tutorials and expects you to already know unwritten techniques like "side strafing" or you simply won't be able to progress.
The keys are now hidden in even more cryptic riddles which is just frustrating. But that is a sin of its times..
Doom 2 is the definitive retro Doom experience.
It added many more enemy types, some cool and challenging, some outright annoying. (damn Arch-viles!!!)
Literally thousands of maps were created for Doom 2.
But what I liked the most are the MODS!
"Ashes 2063" mod is why I decided to finally try out the retro Doom titles.
(Thanks to RagnarRox youtube video about the mod)
Ashes is a complete overhaul and does not even require the base game, you can just download it for free.
After finishing the game, don't yet jump into Doom 64 or Doom 3, instead check out the community.
Try out the popular maps and give mods a try.
