Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless Review (TADeadKnight)

Ok, listen here everyone. As one who did not like Disgaea 6 AT ALL. I can realistically say that I have been extremely enjoying this game a lot! Even when you read the negative comments, they all say that they enjoy the game but the pricing is bad. I agree, the pricing is not great. In fact, for them to charge more on PC for the ultimate edition than on the consoles, it is extremely sketch. But, let's give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm thinking that they priced the dlc the same as they are on console, and then just threw them in a bundle for steam and called that the ultimate edition, which led to that price. I could be wrong, but oh well, I like to optimistic.
Another point I have seen people say, is that they have released day 1 dlc. However, people fail to realize that this game came out in Japan back in January. So technically they are just giving us the content that people in Japan had to wait for lol. It isn't content that is necessary to the game, so I would not consider it locking content. It is all extra, so you don't NEED it. Keep that in mind.
I am truly am really liking this game. The 3D art is starting to grow on me (especially on PC where I can run it very well lol). Fuji as a main character is probably my favorite (right up there with Valvatorez). The supporting cast is nice and quirky too (again, better than 6 in my opinion). We have our custom classes back, where I can choose to be either a skull or mage. We get new classes like the Bandit, which I absolutely love. We get sick ass returning classes like the Heavy Knight. I have heard of the ability to reincarnate weapons, which sounds very interesting. They have improved quality of life things you can do at the senate, such as changing a character's class without reincarnating (in case you find you don't like a class). There seems to be two gimmicks in this game, one having to do with special weapons, and the other having to do with Kaiju.
Overall, I have found myself really enjoying the game and wanting to dive more deeply into it. I'm interested in where the story will go (it is a disgaea story, meaning it is mostly light-hearted and funny), and I really just want to learn more about Fuji. The voice acting phenomenal as usual, and, of course, so is the art in between levels and for the story. If you are on the fence about getting this game, just do it. I really don't see you being disappointed like we all probably were for 6. I can't quite say it is as good as 5 in terms of all around gameplay (in my opinion 5 had a lacking story and generic characters), but I can say that I have been constantly wanting to get back to playing it. Which is a nice sentiment.
If I had to give a score (seeing as I'm not super far into it yet ), I would give it a score in the range of:
7.8 - 9
--- Update ---
Right now, I would give this game a 8.7 / 10. The enjoyment I have had for this game has not been dying out at all. The difficulty of the game I would say is actually harder than Disgaea 5 (that is if you don't jumbify every level lol). In fact I have put a restraint on myself to only jumbify if an enemy does and then only to do that just to hit the enemy. Then even further pass that, I will choose not to jumbify if I really want a challenge. The level scaling is back to normal and not inflated like it was in 6, which is very welcoming to see them change back to. All in all, I have been able to keep this itch to, not only, want to grind but also continue to see where the story goes.
P.S : Higan is absolute mommy .....
