Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed Review (Rumpus)
I have been a long time fan of Destroy All Humans! The second game of all 4 is and always will be my favorite of them all. That being said, I cannot recommend this game in good conscience to anyone when compared to the original.
Negatives:
-Despite a warning telling you they didn't alter anything and put in the same content as the original, this is not true. They took out Dialogue from characters, mind reading lines, and even sped up dialogue in some cases. They didn't even add the trans side mission in
-This game is easy. the original is much harder and it doesn't even have options to increase or decease difficulty. However, I played on the hardest difficulty and it was still a breeze. It's genuinely hard to fail a mission which should not be the case
-Missions are watered down. The original game made you actually look for the person you were trying to track instead of scanning ONE persons mind and instantly marking it on your map.
-The controls are just weird and over complicated. The original game had intuitive controls but Christ man, there are so many different controls in just one button. Not to mention how clunky using your PK abilities are.
-Adding in Peter Griffin Bot. If there's one thing I hate, it's when writers think their audience is too stupid to understand what's going on. That little bot should be removed ASAP and is just insulting to the audience.
-Side objectives in missions suck. Let me play the game how I want to play it.
-Not giving us options in some missions to be on foot or in the saucer UNLIKE the original. let me play the game how I want to play it
-Not getting Datacores at same spots as the original. It's okay too let their be datacores in the wild and not have them locked in missions. the mothership was destroyed, it's okay to have SOME scattered in the over world. it's too planned out and feels unnatural
-From Bay City to Takoshima, they simplified the map design putting things closer together and it gives an unnatural feeling yet again. LET THE WORLD BREATHE
- Some guns feel butchered: the disclocator, anal probe, and meteor strike feel awful.
-The saucer sucks and feels underpowered and underwhelming
-The gene pool blows chunks. remember how you could pick up cars and transmog them in bay city in the original? Well now you have to wait until Russia!!! Plus there's a delay on picking them up :)))
-general bugs. I can't even load my current game since the new patch.
-Kojira instantly killing you unless you play how the game wants you to play it. Oh, and the ending joke about Kojira was removed about what crypto "did" to her, he didn't even throw her change.
The Positives:
-The graphics and art design are incredible. absolutely beautiful. Honestly probably where all their budget went instead of trying to make a more faithful adaptation of the game.
-The moon and Tunguska felt good unlike the other places. missions felt good, some were even kinda challenging. the layouts felt very similar to the originals unlike Bay city, Albion, and Takoshima.
-They Handled the Blisk well. I was surprised
-Despite butchering the saucer and some of Crypto's guns they did improve how the Burrow Beast functions and the Ion Detonater.
There's a lot more to be said. I feel like I barely scratched the surface for issues this game faces.
Play the original until they fix this and create a more faithful adaptation. The original is way funnier too.
