Desperados III Review (nomad976)

This game should not be called Desperados. Something like "Shadow Tactics: Guns of the marshal" might have been a better title, since it is essentially a reskin of Blades of the Shogun with very few new additions, and it would make more sense if it belonged in the same franchise. Most character skills are the same as in BOTS, just shuffled differently between characters (but not always, for example Cooper has the exact same skillset as Hayato in BOTS). There are three types of enemies just like in Shadow Tactics, with "Long Coats" playing the Samurai. Meanwhile, many of the skills and mechanics from the original Desperados are nowhere to be found. You cannot strap Doc's gas to a balloon and shoot it when it is above your enemies' heads, you cannot blind your enemies with a mirror, you cannot throw dynamite, you cannot make your enemies go berserk with a poison dart. But most of all, you cannot "go loud". In the original Desperados, ditching the stealth approach and goin' guns blazin' was often a viable option. Here, all guns have VERY limited ammo (Cooper, who is supposed to be the gunslinger, can carry 8 bullets...), and on top of that, after each shot there are a few seconds of ridiculous cooldown, as if the guns used were not Wild West revolvers, but matchlock pistols from Edo Japan... So if the devs want to copy-paste mechanics like that, why not just make a sequel to Shadow Tactics instead of digging up and messing with old franchises?
