Desperados III: Money for the Vultures - Part 3: Once More With Feeling Review (Letande)

OK, now this... was... good. I mean, before you ask, yes. It's yet another one of those extra maps for five bucks. With nothing else. You pay five bucks – you get a new map for Desperados III that you can access at any moment. End of the story. And, like I said in my previous reviews, even though I love Desperados III with all of my heart, I don't really feel that five bucks for a single map is a good price. Heck, you can buy a whole indie game here, in Steam for five bucks! And on sale? You can actually get something big. Also, don't forget about those third-party websites that sell cheap game bundles. In other words, one map? For five bucks? It's an arguable stuff. Not as arguable as all that terrible crap Ubisoft is trying to sell us in their games at this point, of course (like, seriously, Ubisoft? Experience boosters? Seriously?), but still. And yet, at least this time, we've got ourselves something really good.
First of all... it's Eagle's Nest, guys. You know, that legendary map that was there since the very first Desperados (it's the one where the gang met Pablo Sanchez) and also appeared in sequel. Everybody loved that map. Everybody. It looked gorgeous and gameplay-wise? It was really interesting. You thought about good ol' Desperados? Eagle's Nest is, most likely, the first thing to come to your mind. Having it in Desperados III? It feels good. Both gameplay-wise and, well, because of all the nostalgia. But, of course, I gave this DLC a thumb up not only because of that. As much as I love this map, the map alone is not enough to make this DLC worth it (even though yes, it's the only DLC map that comes with really satisfying design).
What makes this DLC worth it for real is the fact that it also comes with pretty interesting objectives (it begins in the unusual way and it's far from being straightforward), there's a Gatling gun (because yes, Eagle's Nest won't be Eagle's Nest without Gatling gun) and it even comes in two phases. You know how it is 'bout Eagle's Nest. Getting in is only a part of the problem. Getting out – that's where the real challenge begins. Even the story is worth it this time. Don't expect anything big, of course, but at least Mimimi explained to us why Hector wasn't there during the events of Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive.
So... yeah. Even though technically, it's still a single map for five bucks with literally nothing else, it's the only Desperados III DLC that's actually worth it. With close to no “buts”. And if you're going to buy a Deluxe Edition of the game that also comes with both previous chapters of this extra story, soundtrack and artbook in PDF format, all for ten bucks? It won't even feel that bad. So, yeah. Here's a thumb up from me. Now I can only hope that one day we'll see Desperados IV. From Mimimi, of course. Because Mimimi? The guys sure understand the series and know what they're doing with it. Pay them, THQ Nordic. Pay them, pay them, pay them!!!
