Dead by Daylight Review (Stelar)

My overall time between pc and console sits somewhere around 3k hours. Since I've started playing my amount of fun with every match passively has gotten worse.
Pricing:
As a paid product this game feels like a mobile game with its pricing schemes for new characters, though changes have been made towards unlocking characters created by bhvr, it doesn't excuse skins for most of these characters costing twice the price of one character.
Maps:
Random generation of map tiles with the intention of making the game feel fresh with every match kills any chance this game has at its horrible attempt to be an esports game, and removes any sense of familiarity you attempt to make while playing.
Characters:
On the Killers end for characters, i would say it is fairly good variety of what you can play. The survivors on the other hand are mostly just a list of different skins you can put on. The perks you can equip for either side do bring a lot more variety in ways you can play the game as well, but more often than not you'll be punished for moving outside of the meta set of perks with how useless most of this games roster of perks actually is.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is completely dependent on the level of skill of every single character in the match, a game of hide and seek where you chase and murder someone when you find them, while everyone else works on generators at the same time. This gameplay loop is simple and easy to learn...but the issue is that if a single character in the match falls behind in skill level, it can either lead to the survivor side having a swift loss, or the killer getting bullied into the ground by a team with hundreds of more hours than them. And this is an issue now because of MMR, a system that was worse than their last in every way. The last ranking system was built off of "pips" that would be gained from doing well in matches and gaining enough points in multiple areas of gameplay. If you fell behind in point gain across those areas you would rank down and be set with people of the same rank again. This system worked fine in making sure you were properly playing against someone at your skill level, but they threw it out for no good reason.
Devs:
This games dev team is up there with some of the worst around, they rarely listen to their community, have an unstable code the constanty breaks with almost every update and takes month to fix sometimes. They spend most of their time putting content into the game to pander to different communities to gain brownie points so they can have another customer.
The devs mainly focus on pleasing new players over keeping veteran players even slightly interested in staying. Soon enough they anger the newest set of players as well and move on.
Player base:
This game has the absolute most toxic and delusional player base i have ever had to experience. For example, chaos shuffle a game mode about having completely randomized load outs, i have been told i was sweaty for picking certain perks in a "Game mode made to have fun and goof off." I picked nothing and was given perks that havent been meta since release.
In the simplest way to put this games feeling without having you buy the game, The peaks of this game make you feel alright at best for doing well, but the lows feel like diving in the mariana trench wearing a tin can as a diving suit.
This game isnt worth the annoyance and frustration that comes from the devs. sadly you wont be getting a better asym game ever. The player base complains constantly about every single aspect of the game and then continues to play and purchase every single content drop they ever make. The only time i have had fun in this game was playing custom games with friends.
Update 1 7/27/2024
This is being written right after the release of the tomb raider dlc.
Vecna, the bards, and lara croft have released since i wrote this review and oh boy, both of those dlcs have been nightmarish.
Vecna is one of the most unbalanced killers the game has released to date i would say. A killer with 4 seperate powers that are mostly hard to counter. I cant really say much else about him.
Lara, while having fine perks, her release broke the entire game. Introducing dozens of bugs, such as numerous generators being finished when only one was completed, or the opposite where none are completed when one is finished. Bardic inspiration just no longer does anything, and terrain generation being completely bugged to the point where it busts holes in the outer walls of the maps allowing anyone to just walk out and delay the game.
I wont write about how its done, just so i dont have more lobbies doing it but there is a way for survivors to become completely unreachable and stop the game until the server times out. If you want to punish these losers abusing this glitch bleed them out and report them.
The only up side up this entire most recent update is the introduction of 2v8 mode. Its chaos and its fun chaos at that, but it has one issue. The lobby queue time is reaching up to 30 minutes and beyond. Too many players are playing killer for the game to handle. And there isnt enough survivors in base queue to get into a match quickly either, and the chance of a game breaking exploit happening after these long ass queues is almost certain.
TLDR-BHVR fucked the entire game again and its almost unplayable. Dont buy this game.
