Dead by Daylight: Roots of Dread Review (twitch.tv/DBDMaster)
Overall Rating: 5/5
The Survivor (Haddie Kaur): 4.5/5
With a knack for the supernatural, Haddie is a fun and unique addition to the survivor roster. Her blue-streaked hair is a nice pop of colour and her lobby animations involving paranormal investigation equipment tie in well with her lore. It's a shame her "Overlap Diver" cosmetic is a set because I'd love to mix-and-match the hair, although the cosmetic overall is really well made! 2 of Haddie's perks (Residual Manifest and Overzealous) are great, with the former guaranteeing you a flashlight and the latter providing quicker repair speeds. Her last perk (Inner Focus) is less useful and unfortunately outranked by pre-existing aura perks.
The Killer (The Dredge): 4.5/5
The Dredge fills the niche of a monster killer left behind by the departure of The Demogorgon from the store, and provides a refreshing take on the idea of a bogeyman. The Dredge's visual design, consisting of contorted body parts, is unsettling and perfectly captures a nightmarish creature. The killer's power is fun, providing tools to use in a chase, strong map traversal and introducing a new mechanic in the form of the darkness. In terms of perks, Dissolution is strong, allowing you to quickly deal with pallets in a chase; Septic Touch is decent, providing considerable chances for synergy, and Darkness Revealed is underwhelming. Overall, The Dredge is a well-executed killer, with an engaging design and strong power.
The Map (Withered Isle, Garden of Joy): 5/5
(You can play the map without owning the DLC) Garden of Joy is aesthetically brilliant, providing a dark and eerie feel that complements The Dredge well. The map has a good balance between outdoor and indoor space, providing varied chase interactions and engaging gameplay. The map provides some new tiles to explore, which is a refreshing addition to the roster.
Recommendation: Worth full price!
