Dead by Daylight: All Things Wicked Chapter Review (Paentimexi)
It's really 50/50
Sable is a typical pickme addition to the game.
Her lore is written by a person who mentally never graduated middle school, and her retorts are less endearing than they are pathetic.
Her perks revolve around the Killer Basement - which is never a place that you actually want to be in. While experimenting with them for the first couple of weeks has been fun, they are not viable additions to the game in any meaningful sense and will join many other perks at the bottom of the waste bin.
Unless you're a simp for a pretentious, vacant-headed goth girls - Sable is nothing but a head of stylish hair on a moving mannequin even more bland and boring than the Entity itself.
The Killer is on the other end of the spectrum.
Visually disruptive and fitting of the DbD themes - broken up by that gaudy and mismatched hatchet.
The lore for the Killer has been written by a bowl of pudding and a container of pay-dough.
But what is good?
The Unknown is FUN!!
Jumping around the map and lobbing projectiles gives a sense of velocity - even if you aren't accomplishing much. Playing as the Unknown, there's a lot of finesse and frustration, but you always feel like there's more that you can be doing, which is an exciting and challenging feeling. You don't have much other than your little Grimace-Shake glob and teleporting to your illusions. Yet, there's so much nuance to how you use the abilities and juggling pressure from it. Even if all the survivors escape, you're never going to be bored.
On the other side of it, playing against the Unknown, It strikes that perfect balance between being horrendously threatened and in peril, while also being in control and having ways around it.
Taking a few seconds to stare down a hallucination can be tense at times, but is a quick way to remove that power. The Killer telegraphs its UVX lob, so it can be juked or played around with risk. Even when the killer wins or loses, it feels like there was a struggle.
I really like the balance that was stricken with this character in ability and application - because on both sides the character feels like a significant threat that commands respect and effort to combat, but is not so overwhelming as to make matches frustrating or hopeless.
If you're looking for a quality survivor - give this Chapter a miss (Unless you're thirsty for goths)
If you're looking for a quality killer - go ahead and get this Chapter, even if the perks are lackluster.
