Dead by Daylight: Alien Chapter Pack Review (Callust)

To be clear, this DLC is overpriced. Making it a chapter "pack", and costing as much as a DLC with 3 characters, for two worthless cosmetics instead of a third character, is bad. I believe they said they would stop using this model after the reception to the Alien Chapter Pack and Nicolas Cage, and indeed the next few DLC were back to their normal price setup.
I love Alien, and I mostly love the Xenomorph as a killer. BHVR went with an interesting interpretation that seems to be inspired primarily by Alien: Isolation, with tunnels that the Xenomorph can crawl and stealth through for map traversal, flame turrets that survivors have to actively set up as counter-play, and a tail attack that is effective and takes skill to use. Turrets can be a little annoying, but Xeno has addons to counter them if you want to go that route. Xenomorph has one meta perk (Ultimate Weapon) that's about to get a hypothetical nerf in the next patch that is, or was, arguably the best info perk in the game. The other two perks are pretty niche, but not terrible.
Ellen Ripley probably would have been better if they had licensed Sigourney Weaver's likeness and voice. As it stands, she's all right, and it's cute to see Jonesy in the pregame lobby. I don't care for her Aliens reference cosmetic in the paid DLC, especially when the Xenomorph got way better skins that have to be purchased separately. Ellen's perk Light-footed is interesting, and her other two are very niche.
I don't really think this DLC is worth it, at this price, unless you love Alien, and even then it's kind of pushing it. That said, Xenomorph is surprisingly very well implemented in Dead by Daylight as a killer, especially aesthetically; the lobby animations, mori, and unique animations in-game are all great.
