Darksiders: Warmastered Edition Review (FallenStar)

Overall Darksiders is a well put together game that takes a lot of inspiration from God of War and Devil May Cry.
While it does try to have its own identity, it does fall flat in a few places which is a big shame.
The main character War is quite bland and it doesn't have a lot of character progression throughout the story. While he has an interesting design and an amazing intro, his development and his jailer, the Watcher, does not reveal anything new about him or his personality which is a darn shame.
The combat however is great and gruesome. War execution moves on both demons and angels feel satisfying and makes you wanna pull off more of those moves. That's the fun part of the game.
The other part is filled with tedious puzzles that only sometimes rise to requiring anything resembling conscious thought. Darksiders itself is a weird amalgam of DMC and God of War (I, II, III) combat and not particularly great with other stuff such as world building and puzzles. They genuinely feel like padding, and the game is 60% built on these lame puzzles that do not build up the world or the levels you're playing through...they're just...there with no explanation as to why.
The main gameplay goes as this: fight room of enemies (fun part), proceed, wait for portals to align, wait for your platform, run long corridors, align portals, proceed to another room with couple of enemies. - sometimes repeat;
Get ready to fall to your death and get hit by black screens a lot as they may happen on your 1st run trying to see where you can go and what you can do since it's easy to get lost unless you remember exactly what you were supposed to do.
We also learn little to nothing about humanity, how they stood against both demons and angels, nothing. The story can also get pretty confusing at times.
And yet why the positive review since my experience was quite mediocre?
Well I guess it's mainly due to the combat which is exciting to watch due to the massive amounts of blood.
Graphics are decent though not customizable to any extent.
The several boss fights are quite entertaining and while the voice acting isn't a marvel, it does the job without sounding crappy, fake, or poorly scripted.
If you enjoy, say, God of War, or wished you could've played the earlier games on the PS2 but didn't/couldn't then you could probably enjoy Darksiders. It is worth on sale.
