Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition Review (Nichi)
The Darksiders 2 has a lot of good, too much mediocre, and a sprinkle of bad all blended together to leave a very mixed impression. This review will mostly focus on the bad things, even though there is a lot to like, and I'm still recommending this game.
Combat: It is an improvement on the first Darksiders. It's faster and flashier but what you see in the first hour is what you get for the rest of the game. Sure, loot and skills do create some verity and keep it from being boring, but it doesn't have that kick to take it to the next level. Nevertheless, it's enjoyable and fun.
Dungeons and puzzles: Here lies my main gripe with the game. Dungeons are VERY boring. Puzzles are a child's play, barely requiring any activity from your brain. The game introducing new mechanics, but never does anything remotely interesting with it. I get it, it's not a puzzle game, but is what you do, alongside with exploration 70% of your time. You would think that "press the lever to continue" would go somewhere, but it only does basically on the last dungeon.
Technical state: Usually, when you have to bring up technical state of the game is a bad sign. And this time is not an exception. Constant crashes(2 time per gaming session for me, at least), visual bugs, collision bugs, game refusing to work properly unless you screw with settings.
Despite my unflattering comments, the overall experience is positive. The game looks and sounds fantastic. Seriously, this OST is one of the best I've ever heard and goes directly into my playlist. Despite being on the shallow side, the combat is a nice break from all the sleep inducing puzzles. This game is on sale quite regularly so do yourself a favor and pick it up for basically free.
