Darkest Dungeon: The Color of Madness Review (The Best We Have)

Yeah, this DLC sucks. Long story short, I tried the "proper" vanilla Darkest Dungeon playthrough. It was understandably aggravating. Years later (now), I try again, knowing much more about the game and unafraid to use the Wiki. I add a single mechanical mod to make the game not a stresser while still capable of being stressful - the remove level restrictions mod. I have a level 5, two level 4s, and a level 3 hero go to fight the Miller for the first time. I look up the Miller because despite my rare trinkets, upgraded armor and weapons, and overall decent party composition, I am, rightfully so, still scared. To my great sadness, it's not just a boss fight. You have to fight your way there. What's worse is that my over-leveled team gets wrecked by the first set of other region enemies (Ruins variation in this case). How...? Just how?! Like, I am objectively breaking the game's limits, and somehow, we're losing?! This is not a level 3 quest. This is a level 6 quest in disguise, and the dumbass devs fail to tell you so. Shit DLC. Shit gamemode with completely unfair mechanics. Debating in this very moment whether to even press on in the last wave to fight the boss when my only stress healer is already afflicted "and a half" on his way to heart attack. I want to enjoy your game, Red Hook, but you, much like many other young, dumb indie developers think "high difficulty" is equal to "high fun". It is not. Difficulty has never factored into fun. Difficulty is an obstacle. Overcoming difficulty is fun. Super simple difference. Get good... at making a game.
