Darkest Dungeon II: Inhuman Bondage Review (Atoilotl)
EDIT - since writing this review there's been a hotfix that lets you use abomination straight away in kingdoms! thumbs up from me :))
i left the old review below, but it's no longer relevant since the hotfix.
----------
i think that the abomination is a really fun character to use - so why am i not recommending this DLC? i think that there are a number of things you should be aware of before you buy this. light spoilers -
1) to unlock the abomination for use in the new kingdoms mode you have to complete all of his shrines in confessions, meaning that, if you were a fan of the first game and you're here for DD 1.5, you've got to grind a mode you might not be too thrilled to play.
2) the catacombs area has a really annoying mechanic involving movement of your party that makes it extremely hard to clear with slower, more immobile teams. the kingdoms dlc also has this biome as one you'll have to go through pretty regularly when navigating underground passages across the map (fast travel basically.) this is awful. i've loved dd1 and dd2 and this zone really feels like it's frustrating for the sake of being frustrating lol. i can definitely see a rework to this area in the future, but for now it's just a really annoying obstacle that i paid to be in the game.
it's awesome being able to use the abomination in DD2, but not really fun having to grind the original campaign when, realistically, i wanted to jump straight into kingdoms and see all the new stuff that i've been excited for. even worse is when you feel like you've paid money to make the game more frustrating in certain areas (if i didn't have this dlc, would kingdoms actually be easier?)
if you're a big fan (like me) of dd then grab this, but beware of the above. i'm sure this'll improve over time (red hook loves their balancing patches) and i'm really excited for what's to come for dd2 in the future, but playing so far today has been quite frustrating overall
