Crusader Kings III: Legacy of Persia Review (Sphvindy)
I feel like many of the negative reviews come from the fact that Paradox's model implicitly links DLCs to free updates now, which is a good thing. They are pursuing the correct strategy by not locking everything behind a DLC anymore, but this comes at the cost of people being annoyed with: (1) the supposed lack of content for the DLC, and (2) any bugs associated with the update that is not part of the DLC itself.
That being said, this DLC primarily gives you access to the Iranian struggle mechanics, which is the focus of the DLC. Everything else is meant to support that, although the rest of the content obviously lasts far beyond the struggle ending.
The struggle here is both shorter and less difficult to end than the previous one in Iberia. Whereas the Iberian struggle had very specific end conditions that essentially required the player to intervene to end it, this DLC's is much more fluid and will just kind of end naturally even without intervention provided the AI doesn't just ignore it . This is justifiable considering that, in real life, the Intermezzo ended in about 40 years.
The mechanics themselves are fun, and it gives a lot to do in a region that was basically a placeholder previously. My one complaint is that I am hoping that Paradox isn't planning on adding a struggle to every single region now, as that would significantly detract from the RP experience for many players, including myself. The best stories in CK are the ones you make for yourself, and while struggles are fun they can essentially pigeon-hole a region while they are ongoing.
But for $13, this DLC is worth it. Don't pay too much attention to other reviews complaining about bugs/the free update, as neither of those are actually part of what you will be purchasing with this DLC.
