Crusader Kings III: Legacy of Persia Review (Lmaoxd)
I was initially excited for this DLC when it was announced. Persia was an area that lacked a lot of flavor, having like 2 decisions relating to Zoroastrianism and becoming the Saoshayant. This DLC aims, like many others Paradox has pumped out recently, to add flavor to an area that previously was dull or lacked content. In this way, Legacy of Persia succeeds in adding stuff for the player to do in Persia, including another struggle region with various endings, similar to the Iberia DLC.
My primary problem with this struggle is that it can just fizzle out and end all on its own. Not only that, but the Abbasid, the primary power in the region, typically just dissolves early on into the game starting, making some endings much more difficult to complete. I will say its fun to religion flip to Zoroastrian or a different sect of Islam after conquering the Persian empire, as well as attempt to dominate Persia as the Abbasid Caliph. I understand why the struggle doesn't go on until eternity, its supposed to have historically "ended" after the Seljuk turks subjugated the entire region and thus "ended" the "Iranian intermezzo." Ironically, in ck3, the Seljuks are one of the few scripted invasions coded into the base game (not the Seljuks in Anatolia though), and typically fail to conquer Persia as the AI in Persia typically outscales the event troops given to the Seljuks.
Another problem is the price. This dlc is 13 dollars when it takes place in one region, during one start date, and with the struggle only lasting for about 100 to 200 years. It is not worth the price to pay 13 dollars for this relatively small amount of content. This DLC is much more worth it if you buy it on sale for cheap instead of full price.
Overall, this DLC is alright, it adds stuff for the player to do in a region where there perviously wasn't much content. It just falls short of having bang for your buck, which to be fair is typical for Paradox DLCs nowadays. Just buy it on sale.
