Crusader Kings II Review (Zickfried)
Dear friends, I am not one to write reviews, however, after 1000 hours spent playing it, i will give my honest opinion on it.
First, the good: the game has some interesting mechanics, in special the dynasty system. Managing a family was something unique to this game and got me hooked up. There are other features like assassination plots, scheming, managing the nobility so that the government goes your way etc. For all that, my thumbs up. However, I have to say, it is just not enough.
Now, the bad: combat and warfare are a disaster. You will plan, hire mercenaries, highly skilled commanders, move your troops to perfection, reach 100% score and all of a sudden see it all crumble. And that's that: You lost your war. You will loose most of your wars out of the blue. Very, very much frustrating.
The disease and death system of characters is a mess. Your 21 y.o. ruler will suddenly develop diarrhea or wrap himself on some lady and that's that. You are dead. Some child will take it's place and you will do it all over again. Unpredictable, unfair, and is a part of the game engineered to piss you off.
Do I need to mention the DLC system? Well, take a look: it is so disgustingly expensive that the producers are now charging monthly access...
Finally, with a broken heart and great sadness, I give my thumb down to Crusader Kings 2 as it is.
If you would all allow me one final advice? Get the free version and download mods. There are plenty of it on the workshop and you might get some joy out of it. My family knows how hard I tried.
