Crusader Kings II: Horse Lords Content Pack Review (Pwatypus)

Pretty cool expansion, that focuses on the hordes/nomad tribes and the steppes region.
It adds the new government system, the nomadic one, which includes a lot less court politics and instead allows you to fully focus on raiding and pillaging.
The new clan politics and manpower system feel more appropriate for nomad tribes, and instead of levies, you have a permanent standing army like a retinue, except it's much much cheaper and gets to useful sizes way faster, it grows a lot faster in general, but sometimes your manpower can't keep up.
I found the clans easy enough to manage, once you get the biggest or second biggest clan besides you into a blood oath you're secure as leader of the tribe, but i like the idea of other clans acting like tribal vassals, and being able to challenge your successors.
The game really encourages you to go raiding, as it is your main source of income and can help you assimilate other tribes, but the starting postions of many tribes make it kinda difficult: you only get money if the province you're raiding is bordering you (or so it seems), although you can still burn a settlement to the ground and get stuf then. What this means is that you often have to raid really poor steppes or russian provinces or the occasionnal byzantine, bulgar or muslim province.
It would be really cool if you could carry loot like vikings boat do, and the bigger the horde the bigger the amount the loot, and it would slow you down or something.
Also, while you can send your son or relative to be a mercenary, a historically correct and very cool thing to do would be something simiar to the condotieri in EUIV, with a settled kingdom beig able to hire a horde as temporary allies, as nomads were often used to tip the balance this way. It woud be another way to earn money and/or loot and add something to do in between tribal warfare and raiding.
