Coral Island Review (Leiderg)

As you can see I have a lot of play time with this game and the main thing I can say is that, the more I played this, the more disappointed and frustrated I'd get.
So the first thing when you start playing is that it promises a lot of stuff to discover, you open the map and are welcomed by this huge thing with what seems to be just a portion uncovered, guess what? That's it! (for the most part), you will go a bit "outside" the visible map but it will never be revealed or added to this screen, which feels unfinished and THAT is the recurrent theme and feeling this game will give you. UNFINISHED.
Continuing with the above, these new places you unlock as you play, are just big empty spaces with almost nothing new to do or find, every time you would open a new zone, any excitement you may have had quickly goes away as you find out it's just another useless place. **Minor spoliers ahead*". To be specific, for example, you unlock this bamboo forest part on top of the map, that has a Panda guy that doesn't have any purpose, same as some Capibaras that are used only as a new hangout spot and just adds bamboo shots as a forage item, and those are just like any other forage without anything interesting to do with them.
The same happens with the dig site, this time is an Orangutan Guy with no purpose and a big zone of paths with nothing new other than a couple of these dig sites, which on their own also add nothing new. And then the Savannah, which is this very big empty place that only has a cave needed for the story and a ranch to sell new animals. Yes, that is new, but it doesn't need the huge empty space with nothing to do!
There's a big part of the game that takes place underwater, and this is a big map divided in zones and, as you progress these zones, you open these caves that, guess what? Are useless! They are all just filled with trash, literally, trash being a "resource" in the game mostly used for fertilizer, but you can find trash all over outside the caves, at first I thought you would clean the ocean when removing the outside trash but it all just respawns! So these caves just end up filling like an afterthought they had no idea what to put into. UNFINISHED
Now let's get to the crops part. I have to say there's a lot of variety here, and you have several different ways to turn them into different artisan products, however, you quickly realize that it's just all the same thing. If you put them in a Mason jar, and it was a vegetable, it's a "pickled" whatever, if it was a fruit then it's a whatever "jam". Put them in a keg, you get juice, doesn't matter if vegetable or fruit. Put fruit juice in an aging barrel you get whatever "wine", doesn't matter what fruit it was, it's wine. There are very few crops that actually do unique stuff and a lot that have no purpose, like you actually grow cocoa beans but there's no way to make chocolate as a product, you grow sunflowers and there is a place to make "oils" but you still can't make oil with them. Again it just feels they just added variety for the sake of having more crops but they are for the most part the same thing with just a different "skin" and cost. UNFINISHED.
Some will say, but what about cooking? Cooking is completely useless in this game, you don't need the food at all, you will have enough consumables just by doing quests and with gifts for any stamina needs and, after a while playing, you will not even have enough to do with your stamina anyway. Yet they spent so much effort into creating all these different dishes that you need different cooking equipment for, I have no idea what for, if I have to guess it was a promise during the Kickstarter and they had to fulfill it. Okay, FINISHED, but why?
Which brings me to the Museum, the most bizarre thing in the game. First of all, like other games, you will bring stuff you get to fill it like stones, artifacts, fishes and bugs, but good luck filling it! You are completely at the mercy of a RNG system that will decide what you get like artifacts from chests or gems from geodes and, look at my playtime, I am still missing like 40% of the museum, I can go open literal dozens of chest and geodes and not get a single new item, and this has been happening for a while now. I have no hope nor will to ever fill this thing.
But that's not the bizarre part, at some point you will upgrade the museum, and from then on you have like different nice sections to see everything you've collected but right in the middle you find that the biggest part of the museum is filled with these statues with names and a message, I guess it's from backers of the crowdfunding campaign, they are all in this huge room and behind it another big room with more statues, but this time they are all the same and just have the "founder 000" label, okay... Now I understand honoring backers in some way but, why the huge room, right in the middle of the Museum? It's a big gameplay element part of the game, so that's not an easter egg, that's a very "in your face" kinda thing, but more importantly, WTF is that room in the back for? UNFINISHED?
Then there's the bugs, some very game breaking, like, to advance the game there are these shrines you have to offer stuff to, but one of them resets the offerings back to 0 unless you turn everything at once, and guess which one is it? Yes, the one that needs the gems which are so hard to get in this game! I lost like 4 gems to that thing before I noticed something is wrong.
Then in my game it rained once in spring but it rains almost all the time in summer, I've gone through 2 years and it was the exact same behavior, the problem is some fishes and bugs are locked behind weather conditions, and specially for me in the spring, if I didn't happen to catch what I needed on that one day that rained, I have to wait a full game year to try again and you need them for those damn shrines!
There's this Bee house to make honey that will never complete unless you restart the game when and if you notice they are bugged. That's just a few I can remember right now, and all of them have reports of over a year ago so way before this was even into release. UNFINISHED.
Sadly that's just scratching the surface and this is already long enough, what else could I quickly add? Well as I said the RNG is garbage but add to it that the drop rate specially for geodes(for gems) in the caves is extremely low, same for some monster materials you need for the shrine, it will just drive you insane!
The controls are horrible! Because it's a 3D game and not done in a grid like other farm games, there's no precision, you will miss the spot you wanted to do something ALL THE TIME, specially in the caves trying to break rocks, problem is these missed "hits" will still cost you stamina. But you will really know hate when you have to pet or feed your animals and they will either be right on top of the feeding place or on top of each other and won't let you do what you want. And I swear they've been programmed to do it!
This also links to the combat, which is very bad, there's like 4 weapons total in the game, so it really is just an afterthought. There are no bosses or anything interesting, and monster parts are useless except for the few you need as offerings.
Also, Characters barely change attitude to you when dating, if at all, and they don't care if you are in 10 relationships at the same time. UNFINISHED
Overall this just feels like something they first really cared about, then they realized it was too much, then they just wanted to deliver a "1.0", then finish fulfilling any leftover Kickstarter promises and be done with it. So don't be fooled like me by the reviews, those are just copium or they don't know any better but there's a lot of these games out there now, and most of them are better than this, so just try something else.
