Cooking Companions Review (ange1ette)
i'm a bit 50/50 on this game. it's not that i wouldn't recommend it at all, but also recommending this game is a bit iffy..
i think the plot at the beginning of the game is very interesting, but about halfway through the game it just gets really confusing all of a sudden. especially (incoming spoilers) after the fight with karin and moving onto nightmare mode. after watching matpat's videos on cooking companions, it definitely makes more sense, but there's still parts that i feel like are unexplained.
the game would probably make more sense if you have background knowledge on slavic folk lore, though you can do what i did and just play through the game and then watch some videos about the cooking companions lore.
but, is it worth it?
- ehh.. if you like pictured horror, then you could go for it.. the visuals are definitely creepy, but i don't think it will make sense the first time you play it. youtube videos would definitely help. cooking companions is hard to dissect without help.
i was honestly disappointed when i finished the game for the first time, it was different than i expected. but i was also recommended this game by someone who didn't give me much context, just told me it was really creepy (i'm quiet a horror game enjoyer).
after watching many videos and getting the full lore, i say yes, it's very interesting and enjoyable, BUT i just wish the game was less confusing. i feel like it doesn't give as much background context as you'd want in a game. i don't really know if i'd be interested in "dread weight" (the sequel to cooking companions) yet (i'm writing this before its launch on july 29 2024).
