Convergence: A League of Legends Story Review (Loner)
I don't know anything about League of Legends lore but from a very informative video I watched and what others said, the story is pretty bad. But I'm not here for that or talk about that. The gameplay is fun as a whole. It is what you'd expect from a Metroidvania game. The game is really linear. The only time you backtrack after getting new abilities is in Entresol. Every time you go through a new area outside of Entresol (excluding the final boss area), there is a mid-boss which give you a new ability (excluding the final area that have collectibles) and a final boss which increase your gadget capacity. You can pretty much 100% each area (excluding Entresol) the first time you arrive. There are 4 types of collectibles, but only 3 of them actually make Ekko stronger. Majority of the time you'll be bonking enemies up close with Ekko's Swordbat, half the time his Timewinder, and occassionally use Chronobreak (Ultimate). There are other skills like Phase Dive (teleport to an enemy/firefly), Parallel Convergence (freeze/slow time), and Temporal Pulse (push back things around you) which require a blue bar charge that regain slowly during combat. What you'll be using a lot is the time rewind. Usually whenever you're supposed to be dead but can be used more strategically. The only way I can think of it is Prince of Persia Sand of Time and Blades of Time (the only two games I played before with rewind time mechanic). Most of the bosses are a 6/10 to me in difficulty until except the final boss. The only time combat is harder than the bosses is when a lot of enemies are on screen with or without pits/hazards. Especially enemies that instantly explode upon contact, even when attacking them. There isn't really a "HP" bar, more like a "mistake/hit" counter. I played on Hard so I'm only limited to only getting hit twice before dying. But technically you have more than that if including how many times you can rewind time which is 4-13 depending on how far you are in the game and how many Golems you've collected. The platforming can be very precise at time, usually resulting in instant death but can averted with time rewind. The game have a parry mechanic but it isn't actually a parry but more like a perfect dodge. Half of the gadgets (which are basically accessories that changes gameplay) are useless or just clutter the screen with how many things you have to keep track of. It is short for a metroidvania which isn't worth the 30 USD price. I recommend getting on sale whether you're a LoL or Metroidvania person. Over all, I give the game a personal enjoyment of 7.5/10.
