Content Warning Review (Rin)
Let it be known I do not post this review with malice, it is merely my opinion and I do believe this game can become something great in the future.
The main flaws:
It gets old quick
The art style (specifically of the below)
Luck based
I think the idea of the world is really good! A bright bubbly floating island with the old world below covered in, what I assume is, rot and full of monsters; What's not to love? But this falls apart when you go to the below world and realise that practically everything down there is the same UV map, and it is ridiculously hard to navigate. With everything looking the same I have gotten lost countless times, to the point I don't even want to explore deeper.
Secondly, it gets old and boring fast. Only a few runs in did I understood the gimmick, which was good, but if you're not a content creator yourself and just the average joe you may find this experience a bit less engaging. Watching youtubers play this, they clearly were having far more fun and I was overjoyed by that. Clearly, this game has an audience, I just may not be that audience.
Thirdly, there is so much luck involved. Sometimes you get a million monsters, sometimes you get one shot instantly and lose everything. Sometimes it takes ages and you only get a snail. I don't know if this is just my experience, but it makes it a lot harder to continue reaching the view count quota with this issue.
I think the monsters are really cool, ranging from stupid looking like the mixer to really creepy, like the grabby hand explosive guy. The only real thing is, they all have the same skin! It's so dull! I understand the purpose of this, but I really think it'd help make them more memorable if they had some variations!
I do think this game has a good sense of humour though, the character designs and changeable face plates are super fun and makes the group stand out against the dreary place below. The equipment, especially the sound maker personally, are super fun!
The group is encouraged to stick together because of one thing; the camera. Everyone wants to be on camera, and from my understanding the viewers like when they see everyone. But this limits exploration! You can't split up and have separate harrowing experiences, or when you do, they are left uncaptured which is really sad!
I think a great addition to the game would be a second camera: Half the film, double the risk. It would mean you could split up in groups of two and at the end there could be a compilation of the two sides making lots of opportunities for funny cutaways.
Another addition I think would improve this game is perhaps daily goals. Maybe after the first 3 days you start getting highlighted comments requesting to see specific things, and you can choose to act on them. For example, show off how a snail damages you, see a star barnacle thing, maybe catch an explosion live on camera. This would add an element of speed to the game as well as you rush to find the things these commenters want. Of course, if this was a feature, it'd have to be made possible and not just luck based.
Overall, I think this game as of right now is fun in the beginning but quickly grows boring. But if it updates and adds new features, it can become something incredible. I am holding onto that hope, and I wish the developers all the best. Even if I may not personally enjoy it all that much, I still see merit in this game, and in the fun others are having with it.
Also, it's bloody cheap, I can't be too picky can I?
