Company of Heroes 3: Fire & Steel Review (Dreamer)
The first big DLC for Company of Heroes 3 dropped alongside the game’s second anniversary update, and I’ve spent a few hours with it already. J
The DLC adds 4 new battlegroups—one for each nation (Wehrmacht, USF, British, and DAK). Balance? Yeah, it’s a bit wonky, but that’s nothing new. The fun part is how unique each one feels. The DAK and USF battlegroups are my favorites. DAK has cool Elephant tank destroyer, while the USF lets you field mighty Pershing tank. Each battlegroup basically works like two commanders from COH2, so it’s like getting 8 commanders, but they are meaningful and actually change your gameplay.
Price-wise, it’s about half the cost of the base game. Some might say it’s steep for 4 battlegroups, but if you remember COH2, 8 commanders used to cost around the same. For me, it’s worth it if you’re already hooked on the game and want more variety.
The anniversary update itself is great too—tons of bug fixes, better UI, and handy quality-of-life tweaks. Managing resources and reserves feels smoother now. The game just plays better overall.
Sure, there are flaws. Balance needs work, and some might want more content. But I’m happy. New tactics, fun mechanics, and the updates make the game feel alive again. If you’re a Company of Heroes fan, grab it. If you’re new, try the base game battlegroups first and after consider yourself is you want to buy new dlc
