Company of Heroes 2: Southern Fronts Mission Pack Review (Hat8)
This DLC is very challenging and filled with unique missions.
The missions added by this DLC are extremely difficult and require alot cheese to beat on the hardest difficulties. The Soviet missions are desperate defenses based around using a small number of heavy tanks and large numbers of conscripts. Holding all of the positions on hard against overwhelming artillery, airpower, and elite infantry requires alot of luck. The German missions involve quickly capturing objectives before the AI can deploy their endless streams of tanks. German tanks are represented as they were in 1942 and so are pretty useless against Soviet tanks.
This DLC is unfair, but oddly historically accurate. The limitations of the missions force historically accurate play. The Germans counter tanks with infantry, support weapons, and air power. The Soviets have a numbers advantage but are outclassed and put into disorganized situations. Both the incredible professionalism of the German units and determination of the Soviets is displayed by this DLCs gameplay. One of the missions perpetuates the "not one step back" myth but it is fun regardless.
