Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath Review (Jabokoe)
Edit: YYMV learned that not everyone with Windows 11 has the same problems as me. Rest is about W10
Don't get me wrong I love this game and all its narm charm, but as a digital product it is unusable. Somewhere in 2024 someone replaced the steam distribution with a poorly copied over TUC version. This is yet another case of both abandoning product support and simultaniously monkeywrenching any legit users or community around the game. While the intent of adding the world builder and other fixes is nice on the face of it doing so without any testing is just piss poor. This has added more bugs than it fixed and also causes headaches with community fixes, being unofficial guides for fixes or unofficial patches. They added yet another mutation of incorrect AppData profiles, so now there are versions of the game that store stuff in "Kanes Wrath" and "Kane's Wrath" folders, in adittion to the original "Command & Conquer" and "Command and Conquer" folder fuck up. This makes it impossible for the game to load essential settings like full-screen resolution, and this game can not make it to main menu when it has the wrong resolution, there is no sane fallback behaviour. This game only runs on a really specific hardware setup that one dev for TUC was using or may only run with developer files only on their work machine that did not make it into the Steam distribution.
So now you have a game that does not run on windows 10 correctly. Does not run on Vista / XP etc it came out on originally correctly... It does not run on anything in between correctly and is just a pain in the ass to play. From what I understand a lot of the bugs on Proton aren't proton bugs either, but just faithful recreation of how this game is unplayable on Windows anyway. Do not trust EAs Steam releases, they no longer have the inhouse competency to publish games correctly. Even if the community comes up with a guide or workaround EA might force a Steam update that breaks it all and fixes nothing every 18 months or so.
There is no value for a consumer to pay money for this game here, you do not get a working product and the people that worked on this game are no longer with EA anyway (as if they even saw any of the money going to EA in the first place). The only reason someone would buy this is because it isn't legal for them to not pay for it in their country.
