Cocoon Review (Vulpen)
Very nice visuals and environment design, but honestly I found the puzzles too simple and there weren't sufficient mechanics to keep it interesting. It is obviously very subjective as I'm sure there are people out there that would find the difficulty just right, but for me at the gameplay loop mostly consisted of figuring out a solution in less than a minute than having to spend the following 4-7min putting that solution into practice by having to wait out animations or having the character slowly make its way to the next step, which was quite frustrating. I feel like the game had a lot potential on the puzzle aspect but it wasn't fully exploited, in particular a few interesting mechanics/strategies were introduced at the very end of the game and only used once or twice. I really enjoyed the boss fights, though again the difficulty was on the easier side. The story is probably my main complaint, maybe I am just stupid and I have the interpretation skills of a brick, but I didn't understand a single thing about what was going on story-wise, I not gonna go into detail because I don't want to spoiler the game, as I can see some people enjoying it, but after a while I found myself staring blankly at the screen while cutscenes were playing, and just thinking "oh yeah these are some pretty shapes and colors" without understanding anything. Still, the game can be enjoyed even without the story as long as you are satisfied with the gameplay. The game is still well made and you can tell a lot of effort went into it. It does bring some innovative and original mechanics but I don't agree with all design choices or the difficulty level, that's all.
