Citystate Review (Junuxx)
I wanted to like this game, but found it disappointing, chaotic, and abandoned.
The game doesn't explain what 90% of the buildings do.
And there's no wiki or official documentation online where you can look it up. You have to hope someone asked on Steam or Reddit or Discord. The link to the manual here on Steam is dead. So why do I have 700k people living in an Utopia with heaps of demand and money, fast forwarded a 100 years, but my commercial and industrial lots still don't go over level 3? Who knows man, no way to find out. It feels almost like the developer just made this for himself to play.
If you browse through the Steam Discussions, you'll find several posts where the dev replied with "Oh that's a display/UI/census tool bug, ignore" years ago. Apparently no plans to fix egregious in-game misinformation; moved on to other games entirely.
It's sort of like a simplified, glitchy and undocumented version of SimCity 2000. With a few dozen multiple choice policy questions and a seemingly pointless space colony feature tacked on.
Favorite bug that I haven't seen mentioned in other reviews: if you turn down sound effects to 0 volume, many effects still play.
I paid $3 and got some entertainment out of it, but it wasn't worth the amount of frustration.
