Cities: Skylines - Plazas & Promenades Review (MegaBearsFan)
I've been very "meh" on a lot of the Cities: Skylines expansions. There haven't been many that have been outright bad, but very few of them have impressed me at all. Plazas & Promenades is another one of those middle-of-the-road exps. If I could give it a "meh" rating instead of a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down", I would. But since I can't, I'll reluctantly give it a "thumb up". I'd rather have it for its limited usefulness than not have it at all.
My big issue with this exp is that the pedestrian areas conflict with the other areas in the game -- most notably the parklife and university areas. I was hoping to be able to seamlessly blend pedestrian areas in with my parks and university campuses, but that simply isn't possible. Areas can be one or the other, but not both. This single-handedly wrecked a lot of the ideas that I had for city and district concepts.
On the upside, the pedestrian areas are compatible with the traditional districts, and they work very well overlapping tourism and leisure districts. Tourists typically don't have cars anyway, and pedestrian areas in tourism and neighboring leisure districts (combined with decent transit options) will make it far easier for tourists to walk from their hotels to the clubs and shops.
