Cities: Skylines - Financial Districts Review (riskfactor)
I'm going to be a negative nancy on this one.
Ive read other reviews below where people took sold their stocks for profit, but they actually lost a crap load of money. Well. For me, I never got anywhere near that far!
Aesthetics! I got around to building the stock exchange, even having to recofigure a couple of the downtown side streets to do it. Not a huge deal. I zoned a couple of squares of office space in the areas that were "destroyed" by my small street reconfiguration. And the results....:
New growable buildings on level 1 looked good. Until they started upgrading..... UUUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!!! What. The. F---!?!?!?
Instead of replacing the Level 1 building with a brand new building that's larger, taller, better looking as you expect from virtually every single city building game, including this one! They instead take that seemingly normal-looking building thats made of brick or stone, and just build this monstrously ugly steel-and-glass skyscarper on top of it! The screen shots in this shows it for the ploppable Stock Exchange and for a few of the Growables....but I didnt expect for this to be...For. Every. Single. Growable. Building!
And the "skyscaper" they put on top of all of these brick and stone building, are all the same exact style and color. Just this ugly flat brownish color! Its fine to have one or two thats ugly brown like that. But All. Of. Them!!! AAAALLLLL of them are like that!
I took a few screenshots. Infact, I have an entire library of screen shots for the city im currently building. The last few, shows how it just absolutely DESTROYS the entire aesthetics and immersion of this game!
Im lucky that I took it very slowly. I only have one downtown block that got screwed up. Well, two, if you count the other side of the intersection Where I had reconfigured the block I plopped the stock exchange on.
Im not at all worried about the $11 I blew on this one. And normally Im not all that picky. But this. This! This....MONSTROSITY! It just makes me ill on just how incredibly LAZY the developers were in creating these new buildings for this small expansion. I'd have rather they focused more of their time and effort on making actual good looking low,-level 3 - 5 story brick buildings, medium-level 6 - 20 story high rises, and high-level actual skyscrapers of various shapes sizes and style! Than for them to have focused on the features that I actually do like. Such as the idea of a ploppable stock exchange that levels up with investments into various companies and industries. I like the ideas of this expansion, but the upgraded buildings.....no. Just. NO! That completely destroyed the entire playability of this DLC for me!
