Hit or a Miss
This isn't your typical Metroidvania. It's an action puzzle platformer, which has a lot of interesting aspects. It's basically linear and boring over time, and while there are some really nice level ideas and power-ups to be acquired, there's just too much frustrating stuff going on that prevents me from sitting down to enjoy it.
Sure, the dialogue between the characters is okay, and the utilisation of each character makes the boss fights in the late game a lot more intriguing than the earlier levels, but it's still not that engaging for someone who isn't interested in the game's aesthetically beautiful retro style, but more interested in good level design, a great map, good understanding of where things are and a rewarding sensation of progression, rather than wasting 10 minutes to solve a reward room, only to have the item for a heart container vanish upon completion, without the ability to reacquire it, unless you do the room again.
Conclusion
Personally, I couldn't get into it, and while it did manage to draw me in for a while, I have too little motivation to continue.
