Chants of Sennaar Review (Sulimo)
Quick first impressions as someone with a love for the translate-'em-up genre (Is that a genre? It's got like two entries, this and Heaven's Vault), is that this is a goodun. Lovely art style (see screenshots/videos, I suppose), fun linguistic deciphering, and a bit of puzzling.
Update after finishing the game. At ~8-ish hours it's ever so slightly on the short side, but I'd still say it's worth full price. You might disagree, that's what discounts are for. It's a lovely game that can survive on its own merits and is substantially different from the other translate-'em-up on the market. But let's compare them for a moment anyway, because there's not much else to compare it to.
Heaven's Vault is more of a narrative deciphering experience, whereas Chants of Sennaar has a more puzzle-y feel. The language/script in Heaven's Vault stays the same throughout the entire game, whereas Chants of Sennaar switches out the glyphs you're deciphering with a new set every ~2 hours or so. This keeps things fresh, but it also means you don't get as familiar with the intricacies of the language you're deciphering, which I personally think is a bit of a shame.
Still, I enjoyed my time with Chants and if you were to put a gun to my head and force me to assign an arbitrary number, I'd give it a solid 8/10. Happily missed the first hours of the general Starfield release to finish this game instead.
