Brotato: Abyssal Terrors Review (brain)
Don't know where all the hate is coming from. Game seems about as difficult as it always has been. New enemies, weapons and mechanics are good. I'm not the biggest fan of the new characters as they often force a very specific, at times un-fun play style upon you, but that's obviously highly subjective. Overall a perfectly good extension of the base game.
Edit: after playing just over half of the new characters to D5, I concede that the difficulty might be a bit higher than in the base game. Challenging, but never unfair. And to be honest, I'm surprised that I'm genuinely challenged by a game that I've already spent 200 hours on and know all of the mechanics inside out. A pretty impressive feat given how much of the game's difficulty comes from knowing the game mechanics. So yes, it's a bit harder than the base game, but to me, it's the perfect difficulty: challenging but rewarding, never unfair.
And I have to change my statement about the new characters. At least the first half of them felt actually really good. You need to figure out what kind of build they work with, and they feel rather specific in that regard, but once you found a feasible weapon/build, they feel fresh and at times even unique. Impressive for a game with such a vast array of existing characters.
Overall, I can only say that my impression of the game has gone way up! Buy it, delve into it, embrace the difficulty!
Editedit: After finishing all of the achievements, I stand by my edited review: difficulty is perfect, new characters/mechanics are perfect, game is perfect.
