Boyfriend Dungeon Review (Kenstagator)
Boyfriend Dungeon Review: A Dating SIM Where Love Meets Combat!
Boyfriend Dungeon is a captivating blend of dating and dungeon-battling, a unique concept that surprised me in a good way. The game's premise is as odd as it sounds: dating weapons that can transform into people. Playing the role of someone spending the summer with their cousin, you're set up on dates that are anything but ordinary. These "dates" involve diving into dungeons that have sprung up around town, facing off against monsters tied to your subconscious.
The dating aspect takes the spotlight here, with each weapon having its own distinct personality and storyline. Relationships evolve as you spend time together in dungeons and go on dates. The character writing is wonderful, with a range of personalities and diverse gender representations.
The variety of characters is impressive, and the writing truly shines. Sunder's mixture of emotional neediness and distance, Isaac's sensitivity, and Seven's ethereal K-Pop persona all add layers to the narrative and there is plenty to explore.
However, the game isn't perfect. The combat mechanics, while unique for each weapon, could have been deeper and more challenging. Navigating dungeons can feel a bit loose, but overall, it's manageable. The disappointment comes from the limited number of dungeons, which I had hoped for more of but as mixed genre game it does pretty well handling the sum of its parts.
Dating multiple weapons to "completion" raised some eyebrows, but the lack of consequences for this action felt a tad unrealistic. Yet, it's par for the course in dating sims, isn't it?
Although... it would have been interesting for them to cover topics of polyamory or add some sort of consequence for doing so as it never hurts to have more depth but I digress.
Despite these drawbacks, Boyfriend Dungeon's strength lies in its ability to create connections between players and characters in an engaging way. It's an unexpected delight, fusing romance and action into a singular experience.
If you're a fan of dating sims with a twist, Boyfriend Dungeon is definitely worth a shot. It's a game that manages to blend heartwarming romance with action-packed gameplay, resulting in a fun and unique adventure that I highly reccomend.
