Borderlands 3: Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot Review (The Killjoy |)
You wanted more BL2, well here you go! This DLC is all about (the legacy of) Handsome Jack, and his dupe from Borderlands The Pre Sequel too. The new characters introduced are also quite all right, so this is a welcome improvement on the story front compared to the main game
However, I feel like this goes a bit too hard in one direction. Fighting loaders again is fine considering you don't do that in the main game, but that means you're probably gonna be hogging a Corrossive weapon for most of your run. The bosses are all really fun, but again they're weak to Corrossive. One of my main complaints however is that the Map Challenges just aren't as fun or good as the main game's. 2 out of 5 of Torgue's are directly in your way during the storyline, so they feel like they don't add anything. Ember's is close enough to Crimsom Radio stuff, but the maps aren't as conductive to creative ways to climb stuff, so most of them feel fairly simple. The Mayor's are just bad because you only meet the mayor halfway through the DLC and before that the mini bosses don't spawn, so you have to scour through the maps again to find them, which feels very counter-intuitive. There are good side quests here, but since there's just less of them in general, the fact that a couple are "go to a location you've been to before, grab these things and come back" hurts a bit. Bit of a personal one but the new weapons and class mod introduced here also weren't too appealing for my playstyle
Goes without saying in all DLC recs, but don't buy it individually, there's always packs where it's a lot cheaper. It's a fun addition, especially if you miss BL2, and even if you don't it feels different enough from the main game to justify itself existing
