Bluey: The Videogame Review (StillNobody)

Bluey: The Videogame game is a half-baked cash grab. I understand that the target audience of Bluey is mostly preschoolers, and I'm an adult, but still, the gameplay mostly consists of: walk from point A to B, watch a 5 second cutscene, rinse and repeat. The collectibles are fun to find, and that's probably the best part of the game. The audio mixing is kind of terrible -- some voice lines are too loud in comparison with others, and no effort was put in to master the new voice lines to sound like old reused lines. If the show can do it, it's certainly possible, so I don't see why the game couldn't do that. A lot of the textures are blurry, and sometimes the use of 3D space doesn't look right, like how the pillows beneath Sticky Gecko aren't even properly underneath it. I've experienced some glitches with the watering can not watering things properly, but nothing too major on my end. I've heard that the multiplayer is poorly thought out, and I've heard and seen wilder glitches from other people. Speaking of the watering can, don't bother watering all the flowers. I did, hoping there might be an achievement or something special if I spent all that time going back and forth from the tap to every single plant, but I got nothing in return, so I just wasted my time. The game doesn't really let you explore until after you've beaten the level, which is kind of understandable, but I feel like it's taken too far here. It's a short game, and I managed to beat it, get every achievement, and water every plant within 3 hours, and I think that plays into the worst part of this game: the price tag. Oh my goodness, do not buy this for $40. I got it on a discount at $30, and I'm still disappointed. The most they should be charging for this is maybe $20, but Portal, for example, is also a really short game that I can beat in less than two hours, and it's only $10. Portal is worth that money, though, because it comes with actually challenging achievements and bonus stages, and it's a good value for what you pay for. The Bluey game is four times as expensive, and is about a quarter as fun. I don't think that's me speaking as an adult who played the game, because if I was a child and played this, I would also be upset. When I was a kid playing games on the GameCube, I had a bunch of fun with games way harder than this. Did I ever beat Super Mario Sunshine? No, I didn't, but I still had tons of fun running around in a 3D world and spraying things with water. I didn't care about finishing the game, I cared about playing however I wanted to play, and Bluey: The Videogame does not let children play however they want to play. The Chattermax music is kind of great, though, and I did honestly laugh a couple times during the Chattermax level.
