Bloodroots Review (VN1X)
More frustrating than fun.
Bloodroots is an extremely inconsistent game. Often times you'll find yourself stuck on scenery or expecting to traverse an area only to find yourself humping some invisible wall. When you're not negotiating the difficult to parse terrain, partly due to the wonky perspective and floaty movement, you'll be struggling with weapons that have unexpected behaviour; some times not even triggering an attack and instead leaving you wide open for an enemy to take you out instead. The presentation is great of course with its stylized visuals and over-the-top cartoony violence but otherwise I much prefer a game like Hotline Miami. Arguably more basic but so much more enjoyable because it does exactly what you expect at all times.
This is not an outright bad game but merely decent at the best of times. The basic mechanics of Bloodroots were simply too messy for me to appreciate the rest of the package. However, if you're not a purist' and can overlook some of these issues then I imagine you can still find some enjoyment.
