Black Desert Review (サイクス)

depending on who you ask, you'll get very different opinions about this game...whether it be the p2w aspects, the gambling simulator of a gear enhancement system or the never ending grind
so yea, there is alot of "convenience" you can pay for...never mind the 3 separate subscriptions, one being 30 days and the other two being 15 days, all of which are necessary for their own reasons (to be fair, you do get a lot of them for free just by playing throughout events of which there is barely ever a time that one isn't running, or just through logging in)
oh also, almost every cash shop item can be sold on the market place...some people might complain about that, because people with high disposable income can just skip any kind of grind and print money...but that also means that us lowly peasants can buy those cash shop items without paying real money for them, all you need is a bit of time spent grinding and some patience while waiting for your order to fill, since the order queue is rng based on which order gets filled first
the gear enhancement system is rough and will ruin a lot of people's experience, so i would not recommend enhancing gear yourself, but instead grinding the silver to then just buy the items off of the market place to save your sanity (the only time you "have" to enhance by yourself is on a season character, but the rates there are much more forgiving and very managable)
oh the grind...yea...the grind is basically the "point" of the game
you grind silver so you can afford better gear to grind better spots to make more silver to get better gear and the cycle continues, so i suggest trying some trial characters to see what classes you like, since you will be spending a lot of time playing them
ofcourse you're not limited to one character that you're "stuck" with, the max amount of slots you can have is 30 iirc and there is alot of variety in how all the classes play, so try em all and see what fits your style
lifeskills are basically an entirely different game, but they are a very nice change of pace if you're tired of grinding, atleast in my opinion
i haven't touched pvp, so there's nothing i can really add in that regard
my final advice is save yourself the headache of trying to figure out all of the games systems by yourself, unless you're a masochist, because there are plenty of helpful resources online and even class specific discord servers, if you wanna get more specific
but huge shoutout to impansy, jonlaw, biceptimus and evildousharm on youtube, great content covering pretty much everything in video form
if you're more of a reader, i'll suggest garmoth and grumpy green as general sites and bdolytics if you wanna go more in depth on lifeskilling
but besides that, play how you want...don't let anyone tell you what you should be doing, how you should be doing it or what class does x better than yours
it's a game, not a job, so who cares about the "optimal" strats, do whatever you enjoy the most and what won't sour the experience for you/burn you out
tl;dr:
yes, p2w exists, but is also avoidable since "necessary" items are given out for free regularly or can be bought for farmable currency on the in-game marketplace
for the love of god, save your sanity and DO NOT enhance your own gear, save up the silver to buy it off the marketplace
this game is about grinding...if you came here for anything else, you're in the wrong place
trial characters are your friend, try a bunch and see which classes you like most
play at your own pace and do whatever you wanna do whether that be grinding, lifeskilling or arena/large scale pvp
oh and i've seen alot of reviews mentioning toxic chat experiences...i've had chat disabled almost right from the start, so yea, would recommend turning chat off (if your style of playing allows that ofcourse)
