My Journey (Spoiler Free)
First off, I never played any David Cage games before. As a "First Playthrough" variety Streamer on Twitch, I am always looking for:
1. Great Story Based Games,
2. Visually and Immersive game play, and
3. A game that will bring new viewers to my Twitch channel.
For me, it doesn't matter when the game was released, as I tend to play games that are NOT zero-day released games. I want to play games that have been released for a while so as many bugs can be worked out of them.
My Journey started into Cage games began with Detroit: Become Human, then to Heavy Rain, and ended with Beyond: Two Souls.
Beyond: Two Souls, IMO, is the best of the trio. I was so surprised by how I fell for this game. I totally knew nothing about the game's story and must say WOW. Get this game. In my past there was a time when i was interested in the Remote Viewing program of the USG and I found myself slipping in and out of that kind of mental space while playing this game. It was awesome seeing where this game's story goes from day 1. Again, no spoilers here... but it certainly was a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride.
Play Style
There are two choices of Play Order in this game.
1. Chapters in Remixed (chronological) order, and
2. Chapters in "Original" order. This in the initial game release mode; game's chapters in a non-linear narrative.
My first or blind playthrough was in "Chronological" Order (I flipped a coin to decide). Then I played the game, again, in the Original order to to get a few more Steam Achievements. Another unexpected surprise. This 2nd playthrough was as interesting since it represented such an alternative view of the game.
While playing this game, Twitch viewers, new to my channel, and definitely loyal to this game constantly mentioned having some confusion when trying to follow what was happening when playing in the "Original" mode. At the end of my 1st playthrough I have the answer as to why that is, or I think I do. This is intentional, and no matter what play order, for me, it was reveled in the post credits scene. Again, wow! Props to Cage.
I hope anyone reading this review who decides to dive into Jodie's travels and story puts it together. The revelation made it even more worth the $$ for this game. It's ingenious.
