Besiege Review (Dirk)

Love the whimsy, aesthetic, humorous look and style of the game. Hate that you eventually need a degree in mechanical engineering to get anything built and accomplished in a reasonable amount of time. Initially its fun, and you can use your basic life experience and knowledge of various machines and vehicles to guide your build choices. Later, building things of necessity turns into a hugely tedious, tiring, grinding, slog fest that just sucks the fun out of the game, to the point that the challenge becomes more of a nearly insurmountable chore. Informative and inspirational tutorials on how to use the various items, features, functions, and mechanics in the game would have gone a long way to help make the experience better.
Having to reposition the camera with the mouse on a regular basis to maintain vehicle orientation awareness vs the target also gets to be a giant pita. Why in the world the devs didn't implement a "target lock" feature to keep the camera view locked on your target or the target area is mind boggling. All the F1 camera repositioning does is put the camera view behind your vehicle. Because of this poor camera implementation, you have zero idea of how far you are from the target or your orientation to it when you move away from it.
Anyway, I got my $4 of on sale fun out of the game. Yet, I feel like someone needs to be paying me for as hard as I have to work to get things done without that degree in mechanical engineering. What I thought was going to be a leisurely fun puzzle game became a lot more work than I expected or wanted. If you want to try it, buy it when it's on sale, and check out some online tutorials and YT videos for better info and design inspirations.
