Berzerk: Recharged Review (Neverbeing)
It's Berzerk...But wrong.
I love the original game and have played just every port I can lay my hands on and this somehow, misses the point.
Berzerk is sinister, even with its classic 8-bit roots. It's supposed to be frenetic and tense.
This is frenetic and camp. And generic as a game can possibly be. No soul.
And no robot taunts - WTF???
I haven't played that long, but I have't seen the bugs others have mentioned, so no issues with the game play itself. The game also runs nicely on the Steam Deck with a few resolution and control tweaks.
The new additions to the game itself are enjoyable enough, but nothing that home-brewers and a hundred other games don't already do. There are better and cheaper ways to get an arcade fix and even die hard will feel somewhat letdown here.
Overall, this is lazy release and a massive wasted opportunity.
