Before Your Eyes Review (fire64)

I came into this game mostly blind (insert blinking joke here), knowing only that it was "that game you control by blinking" and nothing else. After playing it I can safely say that it was one of the most moving and immersive gaming experiences I have ever had. This review would be nothing but hurtful to a new player's experience if I went into too much detail about the story and the specifics about how it made me feel, this is a game you should absolutely play with as little prior knowledge as possible. Knowing that, I'll just say that by the end of this game I was left thinking about my own life, the choices I've made and the way I want to handle my decision making moving forward, it made me turn inward and any game that can do that is worth your time.
The eye tracking through your webcam is absolutely the best way to play this game, though you can play it without if you don't have one, so I highly suggest you use it and if you currently can't, just wait until you can, it's worth it. Although it's pretty basic, I still can't go into too much detail about how it's fully utilized as that would tarnish your experience. So just know this as you go in, you may skip something, miss something, or even accidentally select something you didn't want to, either by accidentally blinking or turning your head away for even a second, and that may be upsetting. However, I promise that when you reach the end you'll realize that that was the whole point, it really is a truly realized "blink and you'll miss it" game play experience that ties directly into the story being told. Whether you miss something or make a decision that you regret you can always play through the game again to see it all, be forewarned though, doing so opens up another emotional can of worms that you'll come to realize after your first or second play-through. This mechanic is what made this game immersive, it's the way it's meant to be played and you'll be robbing yourself of something beautiful and near perfect if you don't use it during your first play-through.
This is all I can say on this game to those who haven't played it yet, you have to play it to truly decide whether or not it's for you. Pick it up on sale, pick it up full price, just get it, I promise it'll be worth your time and your money and we should always strive to support games that transcend "gaming" and become teachable, immersive and emotional moments that will stick with you forever. So if this is the first, or one of the first reviews you're reading as you try to decide whether or not to buy this, then I implore you to stop now and just take the leap.
To be honest, writing this review has just made me love it even more. Any game that can make me relive and feel it's full experience and weight again, just by writing about it, is a game that I know will always have a place in my heart. I really hope it has the same effect on you.
