Battlerite Review (Bacardibat16)
Hey you, person reading this, yeah you.. I believe my Review will be helpful to you, if you care to read.
I'll start with the TL:DR Version:
If you think you've ever enjoyed any sort of PvP in an online game before, TRY IT. Simple, as I understand the game is free, it is definitely unlike any other game you've played before (Unless you've played Bloodline Champions in which case it is as good or better and extremely similar), it doesn't take too long to understand the basics, and there is currently a healthy population of players so qeue times are almost always under 1min even 24 hours a day. The absolute worst that can happen is you play the game for a few hours and decide that it's not for you, but even then you won't regret trying it because it was a completely new experience and you will have the knowledge that such a type of game exists in the world, which I promise you is worthy of knowing and feeling if you are into PvP of any sort.
If I've managed to catch your attention enough to download the game, here are a few very quick tips (under 5min) on how to make your gaming experience better once you are inside:
1. Go to Options > General > Uncheck Camera Lock (You want it off so you can move your mouse/screen more freely)
2. Enable Chat obviously and disable profanity filter.
3. Interrupt on move is a personal preference feature that will vary from player to player so just test it out (Mine is Off)
4. Adjust your HUD Scale to match your Monitor Resolution (I play on a 4K Monitor so I have mine set at highest 2.0)
5. Razer Chroma is really cool Feature in this game if you have any Razer products definitely leave enabled.
6. Go to Options > Controls > You can customize your abilities however you like (Mine are set to Q,E,R,F and Special Abilities are set to my Extra Razer Mouse Buttons)
7. The little Exclamation Mark ! On the bottom of Main Menu will let you collect Chests and such for Free Loot in game.
8. Once you've picked a Champion you like visit their page under the Collections Tab and configure yourself a customized personal "Loadout" Which is like a "Talent Tree" in other games that will allow you to play your champion your own style.
9. I Highly recommend playing against Bots/AI at first because fighting against other players right off the bat can be rather discouraging, especially when fighting against the Bots in this game can be a surprisingly Fun/Challenging (Against higher difficulty Bots) experience. I have an 80-90% Win-Rate on some Champions in PvP and I still lose to the Hard level bots occassionally.
10. If you don't already, Use a LAN Cable.. this is not a game you wanna play over WiFi, latency matters.
Now that I've gotten all that out of the way, here is my Actual Review:
I should at first mention a couple of things, such as that I am currently writing this Review during a battle between Twitch/Battlerite for some Twitch Loot Chest issues I have experienced while purchasing Gems for Battlerite and yet my Review will still be overwhelmingly positive despite that fact. This is my very first Review ever written about a video game, at least on Steam, (Hell I don't even like Steam the only reason I use Steam is because of Battlerite), and I have played enough Video Games competitively in my 28 years to probably have written many great reviews and guides or even become a famous streamer by now, but I have not done any of those things because I never felt the need to.. until now, Battlerite is a game that deserves my input to be seen by the public, you!
My opinion is based on my rather thorough experience of online PvP gaming, and my opinion is that Battlerite (+BLC) is the platform for the #1 Best PvP Game ever created. There are no other games exactly like it, although if I had to try my best to explain what it is like; it is like if you were to take the concept of World of Warcraft Arena, use the camera style perspective of Path of Exiles, and the combat system of Smite all mixed into one game.
Essentially the game is just a series of 2v2 / 3v3 Arena Matches that closely resemble the same way World of Warcraft Arena works. However, it does everything right that a game like World of Warcraft does wrong. A few examples would be that there is no such thing as Gear in the game, all Champions are equal and upgradeable/purchased items are Cosmetic Only. The playing field is as balanced as PvP can be, granted some champions will always fare better than others in any type of PvP environment, its the nature of the beast, but I truly believe that no other game can close to achieving the type of balance Battlerite can provide, mainly because it is Balance BASED on Skill.
The easiest way I think I can explain what I mean is this, Battlerite is one of the only games I have ever played where a Player with High enough Skill can actually 1v3 and come out a Victor. In almost all other games, except for Smite for example (which is why I still hold Smite as a high competitor to Battlerite and bolst their similiarities in combat style), being outnumbered generally means certain death. There's really nothing a player can do 1v3 to come out victorious, but in Battlerite if the person is talented enough at the Champion they are playing (whichever champion that may be) they can actually win a 1v3 or a 1v2 battle and pull off some amazing stunts that are spectacles to watch, I have seen it before in my own eyes, and even occasionally had the pleasure of experiencing it myself.
A few more examples I would like to share include the fact that every single Round in a Match of Battlerite is extremely intense. (I mean generally speaking if you aren't facing people or bots much much lower skilled than you) When I play Battlerite my heart is racing over 90% of the time, it is all stressful, exhausting, and exhilirating. No other game I've ever played has provided me with such consistent adrenaline as Battlerite PvP. This almost makes playing for long hours difficult because after enough rounds you feel depleted. It makes Winning feel incredibly rewarding, almost unlike any other game, and it makes losing really difficult to bare as well... however, one of the best and most amazing things about Battlerite is the fact that YOU KNOW EXACTLY when you make a mistake that gives you the Loss. It's not like other PvP games where you can blame CC's, or this or that, in Battlerite with the right amount of coordination every single CC can be dodged, parried, reflected, blocked, etc.. and you have to aim every single attack.. so if you mess up and miss an important ability, or if you accidentally waste your parry/reflect at the wrong time YOU WILL get punished for it, but when you ultimately lose the match you will know exactly why you messed up and how you can improve for next time... and over time you learn and get better at it.. its quite a thing I tell you!
In Battlerite there are tons of epic moments, many matches that start off as a 3v3 end up in a 2v2 and then a 1v1 where the last 2 remaining survivors of each team are duking it out trying to bring their team the Win! It's so intense. The craziest is when in the end both players die at the exact same time and you can actually get a DRAW! That's right, if both players die from each-other's final ability because that's how close the match is, it becomes a DRAW and the game goes into overtime and gives you another round to battle it out. I don't know many games that are so fair in PvP as to allow for that to even happen, but when it does (and I've seen it) it's a memorable experience for both teams that they won't soon forget!
I've spent over an hour on this Review now so I'm going to bring it to it's end, but bottom line is this.. I played years of Bloodline Champions (the original game) before Battlerite came out, the only reason I ever stopped playing either game is because the population dwindled and qeues started to hurt.. but RIGHT NOW Battlerite has a Healthy Population, so JOIN US!!!
