Battlefield 1 Review (SirJarko)
So, Battlefield 1.... after 200 plus hours on PC and another 200 on console on both PlayStation and Xbox and recently having a PC that can max this game out to a point where the games engine is the limiting factor, I think I should give it a review.
This game is well it’s just something else, it’s one of those games that is just so darn cool. It’s a cool game and I like it.
The TLDR:
BF1 is a really gritty medium paced arcade WW1 Shooter that is inspired heavily by real life while taking the boring bits out and adding changing some things here and there to make it more fun and action packed and just as approachable as COD. Easy to pick up hard to master fully, Its go go go most of the time while still being a Battlefield experience requiring you to think and learn the ins and outs of combat. Even after 100 hours you will still have something new to learn, improve on and grind for.
The graphics, sound, music, Art and everything else has yet to be topped by COD or any recent Battlefield and there are still plenty of servers world wide full of people to play against, Game is not dead.
Its immersive as hell, fun to play and has aged crazy well no matter what graphic preset you choose it looks great.

Now for the long verison:
Back in the day I played BC2 and BF3 for quite a bit of time when I wasn't playing COD and I thought they were both really cool but very punishing. I had to be 12 or 14? It was a long time ago, some time passed, I lost reliable internet for a few years and the year I got old enough to pay for it myself and be online on Xbox this game was announced. This was a time where I mostly played GTA O and Doom but for whatever reason BF1 had me excited. I made some friends that year and when this game dropped and I played the BETA I knew it was the game for me. Sometime after that I bought it and it was the first game aside from GTA I dumped stupid amounts of hours with a couple of good friends. We made so many memories, Syringe only matches, Pistol only, Shotgun only we would decimate whole games and we got really good. We even got hate messages we pissed people off that much it was something else.
Later in early 2017 I started to move over to PC gaming. I got fed up with the restrictions on console and when I figured out, I could build a system on par with a console for cheap money I took the plunge but not before waiting to see if Xbox would have any decent exclusives to keep me. I waited they didn't and eventually I started transitioning over to PC full time while still coming back to Xbox from time to time to play with my buddies. We all gradually grew up and one of my buddies even has a kid now. I got to be there when he met the love of his life and in a way this game was the last game, I played with him before he became a dad and I moved onto PC for good. Over the past 5 years I have been playing BF1 and BF4 on and off and I have to say this game right here is really special.
In so many areas this game is amazing, Sound, graphics, maps, voicework, Art direction and style, Music, UI is pretty good with options to change all kinds of stuff and so much more. It’s so good that while BFV has some upgrades overall BFV is a downgrade from this game and BF 2042 with all the patches in the world won't come close to either game.
Are there any issues? Yes a few, thankfully they don't ruin the experience.
1. Suppression is a goofy mechanic and that's something you will have to deal with, Its dumb and its one of those mechanics I understand but dislike in a competitive environment.
2. The ticket system for Conquest is flipped so instead of draining tickets you gain them, Doesn't sound much different but it does mess with the flow of the game more.
3. Assault is THE class to play for most maps sadly, Every game has a meta and Assault is the cheese class, Its fun don't get me wrong but its also annoying if you are a medic or support.
4. Content, What is here is AMAZING for the most part, Some maps and modes are kinda eh in terms of design, Conquest Assault and some of the later DLC maps are not that great and are just poorly designed. Thankfully thats maybe 20% of the experience on a bad day and the game is good everywhere else that its at least not unbearable, Just kinda annoying.
5. Attachments, They are just not a thing here like at all. If you come from previous BF games this sucks and its one of those things that make it obvious DICE needed more devs.
6. Unlocks, You don't unlock guns by just playing with a gun in a class, Not enough guns for that so DICE made it where you have to get X thing with each gun to unlock another gun. I kinda have a love hate relationship with this.
One hand I play guns I wouldn't otherwise and gain skills that can carry over to the next gun I use, On the hand its not consistent, The Martini Henri sniper required over 300 kills or 300 head shots with the regular Martini Henry to unlock. This sucks honestly but I get it.
So, should you play this? Fuck yes you should for anybody wanting to play a really good Battlefield game I suggest they play BF1 and BF4. They both have overlap in areas where they are amazing and what one game doesn't have the other does.
This game is so close to perfection in my opinion with some very minor additions and tweaks that it makes me sad that we won't get something like this again. I doubt we would get another BF in the vein of this game and honestly, I doubt even if BF gets on track, we will get close to this. This game is the direct result of 20 years of experience with multiple leads flexing on one game and if EA wasn't such and ass maybe they would have stayed at DICE. The vast majority of people with crazy amounts of experience and successful releases under their belt that left after this game is scary so enjoy it, play it and syringe kill people.
BFV is the last decent DICE game period and since then so many people have left that it will take a very long time before we see anything close to stuff like Mirrors edge, Star Wars BF2 and Battlefield 3/4/1. This is the last game of a studio that is a shadow of its former self and from a time before I grew up and became an adult yet some how it still plays, feels, looks, sounds amazing with an interesting Single player and fantastic multiplayer especially if you get to dive in and play a variety of modes, Most of them are great, I personally really enjoy War Pigeons.
So, play the fucking game lol, it’s worth it you would be insane not to get it for 88% off especially since even before the sale there was a large enough community of players and servers worldwide.
Not the best review I know but it’s a game that really holds a place in my heart and has held up well to time.
