Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate - Deluxe Edition Review (ShikenNuggets)
Absolute nothingburger of a video game.
* Combat sucks
* Stealth might as well not exist
* Controlling Batman is clunky, unintuitive, and occasionally inconsistent
* Awful writing, the story as a whole is completely pointless, nothing happens that really matters
* Forgettable voice acting (the key actors from Origins are present, but you can tell they're not exactly giving it their all)
* Unimpressive cutscenes. The comic book style is a cool idea and works well in other games, but here the animation is pretty weak, and the artwork doesn't even bother to match how the characters look in-game
* Horrendous level design that actively encourages you to get lost and forces a lot of back-tracking (even if you know what you're doing, well over half the game is just forced back-tracking)
* Despite all of the above slowing me down I still managed to beat it in under 8 hours, which I guess is okay for a port of a 3DS game, but still, 8 hours seems like kinda the bare minimum these days and it's pretty lame that this game couldn't get to that even with the absurd amount of padding
If the only reason you want this is because it has Arkham in the title, don't even bother, it's not worth it. If you truly feel that you must try it anyway, at least wait for a sale. I definitely do not recommend spending more than 5 dollars on this.
