Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate - Deluxe Edition Review (joelanderssonswe)
Sorry to say this is easily the worst of the Batman Arkham-games. It is dull in comparison to competent metroidvanias and has some bad design choices. To start off, the boss fights are terrible, some of the worst in the genre. You will swear having to repeat pre-boss animations for a couple of seconds until you can skip it and re-do various phases until you get far enough and unlock the next one. Controls are partly trigger-based, meaning for example that while you might want to start running by holding down a button you might instead trigger a different animation such as climbing into a shaft in the background. The backtracking could certainly do with more fast-travel options. Unlockables, puzzles and fights feel uninspired in comparison with other Arkham games. Voice acting is fine, graphics is mediocre/PS Vita-based. Batman can also get randomly stuck in environments but here the devs offer you an option to load from last checkpoint at least. For reference, I would grade Arkham Asylum 5/5, Arkham City 5/5, Arkham Knight 4/5, Arkham Origins 3/5 and Arkham Origins Blackgate 2/5. Only pick this up if you are really into the Arkham games or are lacking metroidvania options.
