Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate - Deluxe Edition Review (Jenkinsmeister)
For those who haven't played this game because of the consensus online, I want to say: give Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate a chance. The other Arkham games are top tier, and comparing this game to those four open world masterpieces does it an injustice. Blackgate takes the Arkham formula and turns it on it's head by working within the stipulations of a portable 2D action game and adds new sensibilities to make it work even more with those stipulations. To make it more enticing, I'll say that this feels a lot like a Metroidvania. Constantly upgrading Batman with gadgets found around the map, opening up new routes to make backtracking easier, and the power you feel towards the endgame compared to the humble beginning is so similar to the Metroidvania template, I'm surprised this game hasn't had a resurgence. I don't have the power to make a resurgence happen, but I do have the power to just recommend this game to fans of the Arkham series, Batman, and Metroidvania genre games.
