Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story Review (vuk)
Ok, so here's a few things to get out the way:
- If you've played Graveyard Keeper before, expect many of the same mechanics, with a different "look". If you really enjoyed it for the humour and not for the grindyness, this game is not for you.
- If you hate the feel of "factory" games, in which items have a big production chain, this game is not for you.
- If you expect anything related to League of Legends lore or extensive character development, this game is not for you.
Essentially, the game has good visuals, interesting details with a multi-purpose base and some great ideas but the lack of instructions on a very complex game leads to a very frustrating experience.
Even things like finding an NPC can be a chore and not clear on the map.
Simple things like "I can buy from this vendor, but won't let me sell despite saying the item has sell value" could be explained from the get go, but don't. You have to stumble across those details. This happens over and over in this game.
And don't bother looking online because at this point in time, there's barely any help/guides out there.
The game does a good job with gameplay diversity in the sense that you have a few activities you can do within it, but then it "forces" you do to them to progress, which I disliked.
Overall, the game can be enjoyable if you go in with the right mentality but for me, the grindyness and lack of direction on how to achieve something that seems simple just don't make much sense.
For instance, the game has no combat and you are forced to upgrade your character's speed/stamina because... reasons. These kind of details feel like they are there just to enforce the grind.
In the end, I wouldn't call it a "bad game" in any sense of the word but it is wasn't the experience I thought I would have when I bought.
PS: Played it all the way through with 100% achievements... because I wanted to like it and had played too much to refund it to begin with :)
