Backyard Baseball '97 Review (Celestial Pengu)
First of all one quick tip:
Hitting space brings up a more advanced menu to allow you to actually expand the playable screen. (hope that helps someone else out)
Just to set your expectations going in, this is the EXACT same game that was released in '97.
ever so slightly "modded(very loosely stated)" to add a few extra performance features.
If you are deciding on getting this game or not and you did play it back when it originally came out. You will be looking at a lot of nostalgia, you can take that for good or bad, that's your call.
That said expect the same game you've played before but now it's able to run again on modern hardware from steam.
Will this game blow you out of the water with graphics or innovative features? no, it was made in '97 and released in a cereal box....
But now if you just want a simple game you can pop in and out of and just enjoy (or not) the whimsy commentator lines and character catch phrases. Then this will hit that spot on.
It is a extremely simplistic baseball game. Very much just a point and click play type.
with that said, as long as you keep in your mind that this is in fact the same game with all the same quirks and faults it originally had then you'll enjoy yourself for a bit.
I am just excited to be able to have this gem back in my collection. Do I recommend it to "new" players that aren't familiar with the original? Honestly probably not as the game itself does not have much to it aside from simplicity and charm. If you're curious as to what all the hype for this return was about and able to keep your expectations in check then this might just give you a small glimpse of just how far gaming has come.
Pablo you're going down! (personal choice to never pick Pablo for my time only to shut him down! *queue maniacal laughter*)
