Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg Review (Dracolarc)
THIS is how you make a remake.
Atelier Marie is the first game of the Atelier series and it was pretty bare-bone compare to what the series has become today, but still was pretty good in 1997. But this remake is what I actually call a remake. You know games that were remade exactly the same as they were, and sometimes with even less feature, well this game is the opposite. Okay, it is still a pretty simple game as it was back in the day, but man, you can walk around Salburg instead of just selecting were you want to go. There is actually an explanation about what to do in the game instead of hoping to have the paper guide you were suppose to read in your playstation 2 CD box, and the story is actually better displayed than it was with the original. The graphics are for some an issue, but not for me and I love to see the 2D characters moving their lips and bodies when they talk, Would have love to see that in the Arland series. There is also a lot of new events, yes they aren't voice, but I understand the difficulty of assembling the crew from 25 years ago again, and there is some of those none voice events in the ryza series, so not that big of an issue if you ask me.
Overall, the game is exactly what a remake SHOULD be. New graphics, more things to do, more options, more clarity, and overall just more enjoyable. I highly recommend this game if you want to experience the first Atelier game.
