Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg Review (abhumansoul)
*Deluxe Edition, Played on Deck*
First and foremost, this is a game for people who like the Atelier series as a whole, and not just specific entries. There is quite a lot to like here.
+Multiple difficulties
+Completion library, including events list with unlock parameters
+Great remixed music
+Adorable 3d models and animations
+First English localization of original Marie Plus (in deluxe edition)
The cons are not many, but can be irritating.
- Performance is weirdly bad on less performant rigs.
(If on Deck, use Low settings, 720p, +FXAA @ 30hz)
- Flickering screen? Set Window option to Borderless
- Mystification around progression mechanics remain, and the original implementation of the time limit can still be quite painful - one battle takes a day, gathering a single time takes a day, crafted items are made one at a time and are not replenished after use. Given this, the overall game length feels much shorter than newer Ateliers.
Recommended to play twice - once with the time limit and once without.
